Malsis Road

Starting from Knowle House, the historic home of the Lund family, Malsis Road runs in a north-westerly direction and points to Malsis Hall.

It is the starting point of the annual Keighley Gala, which has been running for 130 years.

It is reported that one of the earliest silent movies, featuring a dentist and patient, was filmed in a house on this street. If only Keighley were more sunny then the glory of Hollywood might have come to Yorkshire instead !

On a cold clear spring morning the hills which surround the town are clearly visible.

The garage on Apsley Street was originally a bottled water factory, a trade which still continues in other parts of Keighley.

The water beneath Knowle Park now goes into making beer!

The buildings in the area, which are constructed out of local stone, have a very distinctive architectural appearance.

This picture, of the back of houses in Queens Road, captures the distinctive northern feel of the town and is reminiscent of work of L.S.Lowry.

Looking to the east from Malsis Road Ilkley Moor can be seen.

The back- to -back houses in the Knowle Park area escaped the demolition fate which befell many properties closer to the town centre.

On a sunny day you can still see the traditional sight of washing hanging out to dry across the street.
