Keighley Gala - 28th June 2008 Video of procession now on gala page or on YOUTUBE |
Keighley (pronounced "Keith-ley"), is a post-industrial town in West Yorkshire, 8 miles north of the city of Bradford. Keighley was famous for textiles and textile machinery manufacturing. However it is now most famous to rail enthusiasts for the lovingly restored Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. Ingrow West station has been rebuilt and includes the Ingrow Railway Centre museum. Steam trains leave regularly from Ingrow along the railway line, which leads west along the Worth Valley up to the village of Haworth (famous for its association with the Brontes) Haworth information And Haworth Village Website |
Much of the area was built during the Victorian era, when the textile trade was booming. Now Lund Park and Ingrow are mainly residential in character with some light industry concentrated in the valley bottom. The area is enclosed by hills: Ilkley Moor can be seen to the north, while to the south are the Pennines, the historic border between the white and red rose counties. A diverse community which is located in the heart of Yorkshire, with excellent transport links to Leeds and Bradford.
