Knowle Park - Your Square Mile...
There are 93,000 square miles in the UK. The Square Mile - the City of London - is famous across the world, but for most people it is the square mile which forms their local community which is important to them and how they live. This web site tells in words, pictures and videos the story of the vibrant community in the Knowle Park area of South Keighley, West Yorkshire, England. Keighley (pronounced "Keith-ley"), is a post-industrial town, 8 miles north of the city of Bradford. Keighley was famous for textiles and textile machinery manufacturing and the Bronte family who lived in the neighbouring village of Haworth. |
Much of the Knowle Park area was built during the Victorian era, when the textile trade was booming. Now Knowle Park and Ingrow are mainly residential in character with some light industry concentrated in the valley bottom. The area is enclosed by hills: Ilkley Moor can be seen to the north, while to the south are the Pennines, the historic border between the white and red rose counties. The huf huf sounds echoing down the valley of the steam trains on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway gives reminder of time gone bye. A diverse community which is located in the heart of Yorkshire, with excellent transport links to Leeds and Bradford. |
